Donnette Pownall-Findley was born in the parish of St. Andrew, Jamaica on November 19, 1963, and grew up in the hills of Clay Pole District, St. Andrew. She was educated at the primary school in the area, Oberlin High School, and then to Edna Manley College of the Performing Arts. After leaving, the college, she gained employment as a graphic artist in a company called “Multi Project Ltd”. During the time she married her college sweetheart. The union produced two children.
In the year 1993 she migrated to the United State of America, there she worked and exhibited her art works for six years. Missing her home land a lot, she returned and later gained employment at her past school, Oberlin High. Later went back to Edna Manley College and there received a Bachelor in Art Education. As an art teacher, she teaches from grades seven to grade thirteen, both C.S.E.C. and CAPE level. She imparts her knowledge to her students, while empowering them to become a nation of power, building Jamaica.
Mrs. Findley works in the areas of painting, ceramic and graphic design. These include labels, name signs, logos, banners, pottery, paintings and personal writings on diversity of surfaces. She also exhibited works in both in Jamaica and the United States of America. I had the pleasure to watch her work in all these areas, and she is just amazing. All these areas appear to be easy and manageable for her.
She continues to teach at Oberlin High School, where is impacting young minds and making a difference in their lives. She enjoys working in a variety of media and exploring the different expressive forms as she feels the world of art is limitless.
